FRIDA LAS VEGAS X ARTPOD

From September 2024 - January 2025, I was invited by the City of Adelaide to take part in their artist in residency program at ARTPOD in the Adelaide CBD, reimagining the space and building a new body of work that mashed futures-thinking together with hyper local retro Pop graphics.

Each week I illustrated a ‘poster provocation’ inspired by a quote from people working across the futures and foresight discipline remixed with a slew of South Australian objects and Hollywood cinema icons. Slowly and steadily, each completed poster would go up on the walls of ARTPOD for city pedestrians to take in during their daily commute.

The background mural I painted doubled as a ‘time machine’ (of sorts) where images and questions were projected onto the ‘Fridavision’ TV screen during a series of interactive workshops with members of the public across all ages to explore ideas of what Adelaide could be like in 50 years time together.

A set of old school vinyl decks were the centrepiece of a DJ workshop where participants created a playlist of songs from vinyl of the past, mixing songs together to represent their vision of the future live from the ARTPOD.

It was a fantastic residency that allowed me to create a new and ever-evolving body of work that benefitted from public feedback and interaction in a busy pedestrian zone located smack bang in the middle of the Adelaide CBD.
